Abbey Veterinary Centre is a small-animal practice that has been operating since the 1980s (per its website). From the latest reviews, it appears set up for routine preventive care (vaccinations, injections, worming) as well as some urgent situations—one owner mentions their dog needing “emergency treatment” twice. Several reviews focus on how the team handles nervous or reluctant pets, including using treats to help a fearful dog accept vaccination appointments and being patient with a stressed cat needing frequent claw clipping (even when sedated). Feedback on costs is mixed: some owners say pricing felt expected, while others describe fees as “extortionate” and say costs weren’t clearly explained.

We have always had wonderful treatment from Abbey vets. Easy to get convenient appointments and the vets and nurses are knowledgeable, kind and provide excellent care for our pets.

Okay, breath. Let's go! Firstly, they antagonise. After repeatedly telling them that their prices are unacceptable (more of this later) they continue to push an agenda. Avoid. Secondly, one does not appreciate snobbish behaviour. Of which this practice has in abundance. I can't be bothered to get into it as it will waste my time. Doubly avoid. Thirdly, having been asked to pay £27 for a signature/prescription, then a further £60 for them to "examine" my best boi, even though he's in perfect health, and to compound these issues, another £60 for the medicine, I'd say they were taking the proverbial. SIDE NOTE: I managed to sort my dog for ....a drum roll please, £10! I suggest others do the same. It's daylight robbery and disgusting. What I don't like is repeatedly getting emails from them, a lack of understanding that not everyone is made of money, and the hoity-toity nature they deal with things. I do not wish to receive a copy-and-paste email from you regarding your services. No matter how formal it is, how carefully crafted. You don't listen and then send me something like an invoice for something I haven't received. Awful, awful. Don't let them fool you, if they cared about your pet they wouldn't be asking for exorbitant fees. It's a ruse. Don't fall for it and find somewhere better. The psychology here is quite impressive, they know people care about their pets, and jack up the prices. What are you going to do? My best advice, research a better place and don't be fooled. My dog deserves better.

Credit where credit is due. I have 2 dogs very strong poweful dogs, that I have always taken to Abbey Vets Monmouth, my boys may look intimidating, even though they are anything but that. All the staff from receptionists to practice Vets have always been brilliant with my 2 boys. They actually greet them each time and ensure that they are happy and relaxed, so much so, they get so excited to see them. Never worry taking them here. Thank you all again, it means the world to me and lucky to have such a caring practice on my doorstep.

The vet, vet nurses and receptionists here were incredibly helpful with my three dogs on their annual vaccinations - especially with the dog that usually wouldn’t enter a vets out of fear but was happily taking treats from the lovely vet and nurses. Highly recommend

My house cat is very scared when visiting the vet, even when sedated. Her claws are really fast growing and need clipping quite frequently now. The vet and nurses at Abbey vets are all great with her

Worst customer service I have ever experienced at a vets. No care for the animals and as unhelpful as they could possibly be. Charge extortionate prices and hide the costs. When politely challenged to explain don't want to discuss it any further. The practice manager Siobhan was particularly unhelpful.

Our dog has been cared for at Abbey Vets in Monmouth for the last 3 years and I don’t believe she could have received better veterinary care anywhere. She has needed emergency treatment twice but mostly routine checkups and injections/worming etc. The staff have always been professional, kind and reassuring to her and also to us as the owners. Costs have seemed to be in line with what we would expect. We would recommend them without any hesitation at all.
