Four Crosses Veterinary Centre describes itself as an independent mixed animal practice that has been caring for animals for over 50 years. The website states it runs its own out-of-hours service from the Four Crosses branch, with two vets on call for emergencies—something multiple reviewers say they specifically wanted (and one review describes receiving helpful phone advice late at night for a suspected caterpillar-related irritation). Reviews also point to quick appointment availability and generally positive experiences, but there are also accounts of poor front-desk interactions out of hours and a problem during a nail clip that left a dog with a bleeding paw, plus a complaint about missing transferred history notes.

I am not registered with Four crosses vet but last night I had to call them with what I thought was an emergency with my dog . He had picked up a brown fuzzy caterpillar on our walk. The irritation caused was quite distressing for him. The lady vet I spoke to on the phone was so very kind and helpful. So after following her advice I can now happily say my dog is recovered

I had such high hopes for this place after the positive reviews but after my first visit I must share how disappointed I am. I took my dog for a simple nail clipping as an introduction to the vets and he left with a sore and badly bleeding paw. I take him to specialists to get his nails done so this doesn’t happen, and it never happened at our previous vets. They’d also lost the history notes sent to them by my previous vets. The receptionists were either unable to help due to not knowing how things work, or the ones who could help seemed frustrated that anyone was there, and couldn’t really be bothered to help. My whole visit/experience was sadly a far cry from these positive reviews and we won’t be returning.

AVOID. The out of hours receptionist was the most incredibly rude person I’ve ever come across. Rang up at night concerned about my dog, she completely dismissed me, spoke over the top of me, and even HUNG UP ON ME. Absolutely disgusted with how someone who deals with worried pet parents can be so lacking of compassion. Clearly no care for animals and no understanding of how the animals are like family members. SAVE YOUR TIME AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE IN AN EMERGENCY.

Four Crosses were highly recommended when I moved from Hampshire last June as I had to register with a vet quickly as my older dog is under treatment for arthritis and other age related conditions. I can say they are as good as everyone said. I was looking for an independent vet that covered their own out of hours appointments as that is what I was looking for. All the staff are lovely and the care has been medically excellent too.
