Afon Veterinary Centre appears to be a general veterinary practice that also sees small pets (one owner specifically mentions a vet who was knowledgeable with guinea pigs). Reviews describe being fitted in quickly for an appointment and having procedures/issues explained clearly (a vet named Richard is singled out for taking time to explain). There’s also a clear policy signal around its “pet plan”: one reviewer says treatment was refused until overdue plan payments were cleared, while other recent reviews emphasise empathy and “always good service.”
Based on the information available in reviews, the clinic is referenced for
4.4 stars from 103 reviews. - Empathy and reassurance: one recent reviewer explicitly highlights the empathy shown.

Was with afon for years was made unemployed and missed some payments on pet plan They then refused to give my dog any treatment until the money owed was paid even though I said I can pay for the treatment needed and pay the money owed at a later date. Don't care about the animals just money

Have been with Afon vets for many years, but now registered with different vets as the service provided in the Maesteg clinic is reducing and not able to meet my pets needs. Unless I travel all the way to Neath, which is impossible, for most. Neath clinic is definitely more efficient and the staff are definitely more pleasant and approachable. The receptionist,Tracy in the Maesteg clinic isn't very pleasant and her tone of voice isn't very appropriate for a first point of contact role.Every phone call or interaction with her in the clinic has made me uneasy- one of the factors that's pushed me to move vets. Veterinary services should ensure animals are at ease, as well as their owners.

We use the Maesteg surgery when possible. First class service but above all first class people working there. Huge praise to everyone, but especially Richard. He takes the time to explain everything to you.

They managed to fit us in very quickly and the service we received was second to none. The vet seemed very knowledgeable about guinea pigs and dealt with the problem very swiftly, and professionally. Staff were friendly and welcoming. It is a bit of a pain to park though although there are spaces outside.
